Why Interior Design?

Interior design is generally know as to create a aesthetically pleasing and comfortable space. While the main interest for someone who wants to study interior design should be the desire of creating beautiful environments for people to live in, I think that producing a space which someone can relate to their emotion and personality will be something i would want to achieve in the future.

Studying interior architecture was a spontaneous decision made without much thinking. Following some of my friends which is also lost on what to study after high school, we took the career test provided by the counselor. Most of my friends got a wide range of career choices which also includes their first choice on what to study. For me, my result for the test was way lesser which I expected before even doing the test since i cannot keep the passion towards something for too long. As my suggested choice was landscape architecture I started to do some research on the fields related to that and came up with the decision of studying either architecture or interior design while I gave up my first choice to become an engineer as I was not keen to study science anymore. When I started to understand more about interior architecture, my passion for it grew bigger and it also made some changes to my lifestyle, thinking and relation with peoples.

As time goes by, interior architecture became my spiritual sustenance as my emotions are brought into designing and thinking about a space. I started to think that a space is where someone hides and release their emotions as long as they feel comfortable. The relation of a space and the user seems to be more important than to create a space which looks extremely beautiful but fails in interacting with the users. One of my final review invigilator told me that designing for a purpose is more important than creating a space that focuses on aesthetics only.

To me, interior design is to create a comfortable space which interacts with the user physically, mentally and emotionally. Breaking boundaries between a space and the users is what I want to achieve atleast for now.
